Homeless Ministry

Weekly distribution

Edmonds and Lake City

North King and South Snohomish Counties

The Lord birthed the Homeless Outreach ministry in June of 2009. It started through the prayers and ministry of John Jacob, Brian Christopherson, and Janette Brooks. We started with a team going to Ballard to minister with bag lunches and supplies such as socks, sleeping bags, and gloves. The homeless were so grateful for the help and many were encouraged to come to Westgate’s New Heart Healing and Recovery programs at Philadelphia Church in Ballard and Westgate Chapel. Chef John’s Lake City team make and deliver sandwiches to the Lake City Shelter.

Jail Ministry

We have a tremendous opportunity to touch shattered lives by sharing the only way for peace and healing: Jesus Christ our Savior, Freedom Ministries, Westgate’s Jail Ministry, offers the sharing of God’s Word with inmates.

Pen Pal Outreach
We can correspond with prisoners through the mail and lift them up in prayer. Select inmates are given permission to correspond. Every pen pal needs to submit a Background Check and receive instruction as to the do’s and don’ts of corresponding. If you would like to participate, contact our team leader Brian Christopherson at [email protected]

Aftercare Ministry
We help to meet needs of the released prisoner through Westgate Chapel’s Food & Clothing Bank and community resources.

To The Incarcerated
We want you to know that we care about you, pray for you and are ready to walk together with you as you leave the past behind. Westgate Chapel’s Freedom Ministry is here to help.

Food and Clothing Bank

Thursdays, 11am-2pm

Westgate Chapel Commons

Each week we operate a food and clothing bank for the less fortunate. The food we distribute is donated by Northwest Harvest, Food Lifeline, United States Federal Commodities Program, Washington State and Local Food Purchasing programs. In addition to food, clothing, and household items are donated by the Westgate Chapel congregation and the greater Edmonds community.
Open during the same hours as the Food Bank, the Clothing Bank offers community clients a selection of new and gently used clothing and selected household items. Clothing is free of charge, but recipients must register in the Food Bank for this service.

Motel Ministry

Weekly

Though not thought of as homeless in the sense that they are residents of a homeless camp or sleeping in their car, residents of local motels have no permanent home and have just enough income to pay the room fee for a motel but not enough to get into an apartment. Our Westgate Chapel Motel Ministry Team visits the residents of the motels each week offering food and clothing as well as prayer for personal needs. Several have made their way to New Heart Monday Nite and Sunday Services.

Benevolence

Mondays-Thursdays, 9am-5pm

Westgate Chapel Church Office

Caring for those in need who are of the household of faith has long been an important part of local church ministry. The Apostle James wrote “Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” (James 1:27).
The Benevolence Ministry is an effort to fulfill the spirit of the Word of God by offering practical financial assistance to members of the Westgate Chapel Community of Faith. Priority in the distribution of funds is given to widows and single moms. While the Benevolence Team seeks to respond to every request, we cannot be an income supplement for those monthly expenses consistently exceeding their income.
